Some journeys are shaped by the opportunities we receive. Others are shaped by the sacrifices made by those who came before us.
Our founder reflects on a powerful story of education, perseverance, and the courage to break generational barriers.
Follow his words here:
"In my career coaching journey, I once worked with an accomplished professional who came to every session curious and ready to take on whatever she was facing. One day, midway through a session, she paused and began telling me where she came from.
Her parents grew up in a village. Her father had little schooling, and her mother could not read or write. But they made a decision that changed everything: they left the village and moved to the city, so their children could get a good education.
Life in the city was not easy. Her father worked on daily wages in a relative's company. Yet the children never knew how tight money was until they were grown up. Whatever else was cut back, school fees were not. Her parents made sure all four children went to good schools and learned to speak English fluently.
One sentence from her father echoed through their childhood: "Education will only save us. Please study well, dear."
The children did. She and her sisters became the first graduates in the family. And she went further still: she became the first girl in her extended family to build a career, and has stayed on that path for 17 years.
Today, her younger cousins and nieces are following in her footsteps. As she put it, she is becoming for them the example she never had.
It reminded me of Dashrath Manjhi, the man from Bihar who spent about 22 years cutting a path through a mountain with a hammer and chisel, so that his village would never again be cut off.
Her parents were Manjhis too. They did not break rock. They left behind everything familiar, lived on daily wages, and chiselled away at generations of limits, one school fee at a time. Their daughter walked the path they carved, and now she is clearing it further for the girls who come after her."
